This is a 15-day tour to the northern, middle, and southern regions of Kemet (Egypt), which was one of the greatest civilizations in world history. This unique tour includes visiting 25-30% more locations than other educational and study tours, and the areas visited are pyramid sites, tombs, temples, museums, ancient residential sites, and spending a day in a local Nubian village.

The “Kemet (Ancient Egypt)” tour focuses on six (6) main themes:

  1. The southern origin of Kemetian (ancient Egyptian) civilization;
  2. The origin and evolution of pyramid building in classical Kemet;
  3. The classical African contributions to the world in writing, medicine, math, the calendar, and architecture;
  4. Kemet at its pinnacle of greatness, and the later foreign occupation periods;
  5. Modern Fraud and the deliberate alteration and fabrication of artifacts; and
  6. Primary (first-hand) research methods and original sources used to investigate each theme.

To study each theme, the tour includes evening presentations (approximately 60 minutes) by Prof. Ampim to discuss the information learned in the field. Also, any students joining the tour have the option of using this educational tour for study abroad credit and earning 3 units of college credit from their respective academic programs.

ETHIOPIA TOUR: The Land of Ancient Kush
(June 24-July 9, 2025)

Escorted by noted historian Prof. Manu Ampim

This 16-day tour in the northern region of Ethiopia is an area considered part of the “Land of Ancient Kush,” which was one of the greatest civilizations of antiquity. The tour includes visiting museums, archaeological sites, monuments, ancient churches, exploring the origins of the Blue Nile River, and spending a week in the Omo Valley with various indigenious tribes where Prof. Manu has a special relationship with many of the village interpreters, elders, and chiefs.

The “Ethiopia: The Land of Ancient Kush” tour focuses on five (5) main themes:

  1. Modern Ethiopia as an important center of the classical Kushite civilization, which had a major impact on both Nubia and Kemet (ancient Egypt);
  2. The evidence of early human origins in the Ethiopia region;
  3. The Christian era beginning in the 4th century C.E.;
  4. The first-hand observations of ceremonies and daily life of indigenous groups in the remote areas in the Omo Valley; and
  5. Primary (first-hand) research methods and original sources used to investigate each theme.

To study each theme, the tour includes evening presentations (approximately 45-60 minutes) by Prof. Ampim to discuss the information learned in the field. Also, any students joining the tour have the option of using this educational tour for study abroad credit and earning 3 units of college credit from their respective academic programs.

2025 Frequently Asked Questions

(Download FAQ PDF)

    • Can I pay in installments and when is the final payment due?
      Yes, installment payments can be made, and the final payment is due 60 days before departure.

    • Can I make electronic payments?
      Yes, payments can be made via regular mail or by several electronic options, such as Zelle, CashApp, Venmo, Paypal, or bank transfer.

    • What if I will be traveling from outside the U.S. to Africa?
      All travelers are welcome to join the tours beginning at the international arrival city (i.e. Cairo, Egypt or Addis Ababa Ethiopia). These tour members will pay for only the land package, which begins at the international arrival city, and all tours costs are covered upon joining the group. The Kemet (Egypt) Tour land package is $4,579, and the Ethiopia Tour land package is $3,300.
    • Is there a cruise with the tour?
      Yes, there is boat travel. For the Kemet Tour, the final 5 days will include travel and accommodations on the Nile River. Rather than use the big cruise ship, we travel in smaller boats in order to visit more sites and determine our own travel schedule. Traveling in a smaller boat is more enjoyable, because you can literally run your hand through the Nile water, and our Nubian boat captains bring their traditional handmade jewelry for purchase. Also, the Nubian children are frequently swimming next to our boats and singing songs, whereas the visitors on the large cruise ships do not have any of these memorable experiences. Our hotel in Nubia is on an Island in the middle of the Nile, and all travel to/from the hotel is by boat. For the Ethiopia Tour, in the northern area we ride a boat on Lake Tana (which is the source of the Blue Nile), and in the southern area we ride in a small traditional wooden boat across the Omo River.
    • Can I join both the Kemet and Ethiopia tours?
      Yes. The Kemet Tour cost would be the listed amount of $5,699, but the Ethiopia Tour would be about $800 less than the listed $4,999, because there is no international airfare from the U.S. Instead, the flight would be between two African cities, Cairo and Addis Ababa.
