About the Ethiopia Educational Tour
Ethiopia occupies an important place in the study of ancient African history and the broader world of classical Kush.
This 16-day educational journey introduces participants to significant historical, archaeological, religious, and cultural locations across Ethiopia.
Participants will visit museums, archaeological sites, monuments, ancient churches, and locations associated with the origins of the Blue Nile. The journey also includes first-hand cultural study in the Omo Valley, where participants can observe traditions, ceremonies, and daily life within indigenous communities.
The tour combines travel with field research, historical interpretation, cultural engagement, and educational presentations led by Prof. Manu Ampim.

A Journey Beyond the Typical Tour
This educational journey is designed to go beyond conventional sightseeing. Participants experience important historical and cultural locations while learning how evidence observed in the field connects to broader questions in African history. Throughout the tour, field visits are supported by educational discussions and evening presentations led by Prof. Manu Ampim.

Evening presentations of approximately 45–60 minutes help participants discuss and place into context information observed during the day's field activities. Each tour member also receives Prof. Ampim's CD, "Documenting Your Travel Experiences."

Addis Ababa Land Package
$3,750 per person
For travelers joining the tour from Washington, D.C. All inclusive of tips and taxes.
Single Room Supplement — +$350. For travelers requesting single-room accommodation.
Booking Deposit
A $500 non-refundable deposit per person is required to reserve your place.
Installment Payments
Installment payments are accepted after the initial registration/deposit.
Final Payment
The remaining balance must be paid no later than 60 days before departure — by April 24, 2027 — to guarantee cost.

Students participating in the tour have the option of using this educational experience toward study-abroad credit, with the potential to earn up to 3 units of college credit through their respective academic programs.
